Abstract

The article focuses on the role and issues of assessing the impact of coal mining on the natural environment in the resource producing region of the Kemerovo Oblast, i.e. Kuzbass (Kuzbass) in conditions of transition to the low-carbon economy. The authors believe that the measurement of sustainable ecological development, carbon intensity of the resource producing region determines the need for a wider application of methodological tools to assess the technogenic impact of coal mining on the environment. The need has been justified to calculate indicators of the "carbon footprint" and decoupling to assess the impact of coal mining and coal consumption in the region on the natural ecosystem. Single-factor linear regression models have been built to determine the strength of the correlation relationship between the volumes of coal mining and pollutant emissions. Presence of the decoupling effect in the negative impact of pollutant emissions has been revealed in coal mining in Kuzbass in 2013-2019, which is seen as a positive trend compared to previous periods of the region's development.
