Abstract

The paper reviews the relevance of the challenges concerned with managing poorly caving roofs at the Vorkuta coal deposit during the stoping operations as well as the possibility of resolving these challenges in operational conditions. Controlled caving of poorly caving roofs as well as research support of these activities have been implemented at the Vorkutaugol operations using the directional hydraulic fracturing method. Evaluation has been made of the efficiency of the implemented technical solutions. Based on the pilot implementation results of the directional hydraulic fracturing method (DFM) to manage poorly caving roofs, a high efficiency of this method has been confirmed, as well as the predictability of the result for the Vorkutaugol conditions.
