Abstract

The geography of coal mining pits and thermal power plants based on coal combustion has been determined in the Free State and Mpumalanga provinces in the Republic of South Africa. The results are presented of studying the current state of surface mining of coal deposits using the Earth remote sensing data from space. The production potential of operating open-pit coal mines has been identified in the course of remote monitoring and analytical calculations.
