Abstract

Introduction. This article is dedicated to analyzing the prospects for the application of Chinese automotive brands in the Russian coal mining industry. The relevance of the topic is underscored by the increase in the share of Chinese machinery in coal mining enterprises, rising from 15% in 2015 to 30% in 2020, and the necessity to develop strategies for its effective adaptation. The aim of the study is to provide a comprehensive assessment of the potential of Chinese brands and to develop recommendations for optimizing their use based on an analysis of operational data from 20 leading coal mining companies in Russia. Methods. A systematic approach was used, including a structural analysis of a fleet consisting of 500 units of machinery, comparative tests of 50 models based on performance, reliability, and environmental criteria, as well as a SWOT analysis of four growth scenarios for increasing the share of Chinese machinery from 5% to 25%. Data were sourced from coal mining companies, Rosstat, the Federal Customs Service (FCS), and industry experts. Results. The study revealed that Chinese machinery has a 20-25% advantage in terms of cost-effectiveness, with potential to improve reliability by 15-20% and reduce emissions by 10-15%. Three key adaptation priorities were identified: localization of production and services, integration of digital technologies, and the development of R&D partnerships.
