Abstract
The coal industry continues to play an important role in the Russian economy, providing about 17% of electricity generation and 15% of export revenues. However, the industry faces a number of serious challenges, including the declining competitiveness of coal compared to alternative energy sources, tightening environmental regulations, and the necessity for modernization of its production base. Under these conditions, digitalization has become a key factor for the sustainable development of the coal industry, enabling the optimization of production and business processes by implementing advanced Industry 4.0 technologies. Digitalization of the coal industry opens up new opportunities to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the industry’s development. The article presents the results of the development of a methodology for the creation and application of digital twins for coal deposits and mining enterprises. A typical platform architecture is proposed, including modules for data integration, predictive modeling, and decision support. Methods for optimizing coal mining and processing processes have been developed, ensuring an increase in productivity by 10-15% and a reduction in losses by 5-7%. Based on the assessment of economic and environmental effects, it is shown that the implementation of digital twins will increase the profitability of coal enterprises by an average of 5-7 percentage points and reduce specific greenhouse gas emissions by 20-25% by 2030. The results obtained are of great importance for the scientific and technological advancement and for enhancing the competitiveness of Russia’s coal industry in the context of the global energy transition.
