Abstract

This research examines how economic growth in Russia is influenced by performance metrics from its coal sector. The investigation analyzes the coal industry’s economic significance and its contribution to Russia’s overall development as a key functional component. Despite the global shift towards renewable energy alternatives, coal remains the world’s dominant energy source, making it crucial to evaluate how the coal sector impacts society and infrastructure. The transition to future energy sources requires careful management to minimize socioeconomic disruption, with particular emphasis on coal sector assistance and adoption of proven transformation strategies. Based on the analysis of the relationship between the level of development of the coal industry and the level of economic development, the functional role of the coal industry sector is shown. Currently, the position of the Russian Federation is firmly established as one of the world leaders in coal production. However, recently there has been a tendency to reduce the volume of coal use and production, due to changes in the international fuel and energy sector market. At the present stage of development of the Russian economy, more and more attention is being paid to the effective development of extractive industries in the fuel and energy sector of the industry. The industry is being reformed through the introduction of new coal mining technologies aimed at minimizing the negative production effect.
