Abstract
The article deals with the application of underground coal gasification technology (UCGT) for the extraction of residual coal reserves remaining in abandoned mines. The study of the possibility of UCGT application on the example of one of the mining field of Kemerovo region was carried out. The study included analysis of mining and geological conditions, modelling of gasification process and laboratory experiments. The purpose of the work was to assess the technical feasibility, economic feasibility and environmental efficiency of UCGT. As a result, data on the composition of the produced gas, its calorific value and economic efficiency of electricity generation were obtained. It was found that the mining and geological conditions of the site are favourable for the application of UCGT, and the resulting gas can be used for power generation. Economic analysis showed the competitiveness of UCGT compared to conventional methods. A reduction in pollutant emissions was also noted. The obtained results indicate the promising potential of UCGT technology for the processing of residual coal reserves and the need for further research for the implementation of this technology.
