Abstract

The article is dedicated to the Soviet and Kazakh scientist in chemistry and metallurgy, academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR, laureate of the State Prize of the USSR, a prominent research and educational leader of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Evney Arstanovich Buketov. This paper describes the scientist's contribution to originating and developing the scientific ideas on introduction of underground gasification in coal mines of the Karaganda coal basin and production of synthetic oil from low-energy coals of Shubarkul, Maikuben and other fields of the Saryarqa District of Kazakhstan. The ideas of Academician E.A. Buketov, based on the concepts of coal chemistry and ferroalloy production, autoclave processes, and united in one scientific trend, were implemented through the laboratory of coal chemistry created by the scientist.
