Abstract
The paper reviews specific features of implementing sustainable development goals in the coal industry, as well as components of the sustainable development mechanism of business models in Russian coal companies. It presents the results of analyzing reports on sustainable development of coal industry companies that seek to enhance the environmental and social orientation of business, the safety level, as well as positive effects on systems of regions where the company operates, with justification based on quantitative parameters. An approach is proposed to sustainable value chain management as a sustainable development tool to offset business risks in the coal industry.
