Abstract
The article discusses the main directions for increasing the innovative activity of coal companies. Using an econometric model, the determining role of market competition in shaping the innovative behavior of organizations is shown. A theoretical substantiation of the econometric model based on the interaction of the effects of opportunities and incentives for innovation is given. The influence of the current market situation on the innovative activity of coal enterprises is revealed, the main factors hindering their innovative activity are identified. Based on the results of the study, the formation of optimal interaction between coal companies and innovative organizations (startups) is proposed as a driver of innovative development in the coal industry. It is shown that the best innovative result from the interaction of startups and coal enterprises can be achieved within the cluster model.
